Your dental practice can never thrive if you, the dentist, are not in tiptop shape, both physically and mentally.  There are things you can commit to right now for the new year, to be your best YOU!

Start eating the best food that you can.  I just read an article in the Washington Post this week about substitutions in your diet to lose weight.  The idea is to eliminate processed carbohydrates like cookies, crackers and pasta by replacing them with beans, lentils, quinoa, and bulgur.  Eat lots of green and yellow vegetables.  Snack on fruit of all types.  Eat lots of protein especially fish and chicken.

Drink lots of water.  Concentrate on improving your balance, flexibility, cardiac fitness and strength.  Exercise with your heart rate up at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.  Lift weights by doing 3 sets of 10 repetitions of each exercise several times a week.

Don’t forget to stretch – it is so very important.

Consider meditation to stay calm and focused. Just sit in a quiet place, close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing for a few minutes. It is the best stress reliever I know.

See a medical professional about any conditions that you are concerned about.  Follow their recommendations.  Take the time to take care of yourself.

As you age, your body will thank you!!

Encourage your staff members to be as healthy as they can be as well!
